Cockatoos - Requirements
All Cockatoos are individuals, and react differently on being kept as pets. Some of them act more like dogs than birds (for example, the Moluccan Cockatoo can be called "a lap bird"). Young Cockatoos are very entertaining, sweet and bright, they don't make much noise for about a year, but sometimes they change and become self-mutilators and terrors to their owners. It's only the owner's fault for buying something that he hasn't researched.

Cockatoos should be provided with large outdoor aviaries, not just a cage, and lots of toys and entertainment. They need almost constant attention, because all they have is the master, and the parrot's inquisitive mind asks for food even more than the body. You have to put your Cockatoo out of the cage for several times a day and play with it. These birds for all their lives remain like 2-year-old children.

Without proper care Cockatoos become nervous and aggressive. They can pluck out all their feathers; their scream can be unbearable. Besides Cockatoos have special "dust" on their feathers that can be an allergen. Cockatoos cannot stand being alone for 8 hours a day; someone must be home for most of the time. So only few people are able to keep Cockatoos and make them happy.
